Genco Construction Services were appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver a major roof overlay project at Tesco Stroud Green in Finsbury Park, London. The 12-week programme was undertaken to address deterioration and water ingress to the existing roof, while allowing the store to remain operational throughout the works.
The project involved extensive preparation of the existing roof areas before the installation of a new IKO Armourplan waterproofing system, incorporating a separation fleece, mechanically fixed membrane and specialist detailing to upstands, penetrations and perimeter areas. Improvements were also made to the existing roof drainage, alongside associated mechanical and electrical works and the removal of redundant plant.
Further improvements included new maintenance walkways, permanent guardrail protection and safer long-term roof access. Careful planning of temporary works, deliveries and site logistics enabled the works to be carried out safely within a live retail environment, with disruption to store operations kept to a minimum.
IKO quality-control inspections and leak-detection testing were also incorporated into the programme prior to handover, helping to ensure a high-quality, durable waterproofing solution.
