Genco were appointed as Principal Contractor to deliver a full renovation and refurbishment of Co-op’s South Street store in Worthing. Valued at £467,000 and delivered over a seven-week programme, the project marked Genco’s first complete refit for Co-op.
The works included a full internal strip-out and asbestos removal, alongside structural alterations, fireproofing upgrades and the creation of new internal layouts and colleague facilities. New ceilings, partitions, resin and soft flooring, shelving and checkout areas were installed, together with full redecoration throughout the store.
Extensive mechanical and electrical upgrades were also completed, including rewiring, new containment, lighting, plumbing and mechanical services, together with new CO₂ refrigeration packs and chiller systems. External improvements included repairs, decoration, signage works and upgrades to plant and associated areas.
Completed on time and within budget, the project transformed the existing store into a modern, fully refurbished retail environment and represented an important milestone in Genco’s relationship with Co-op.
